Animation Experience

Mr Dog Films, Cardiff
(8th July - 16th August 2013)
Sprite Animation/Artist/Idea Generation – Banshee Project

I am currently volunteering with a Cardiff based Company that produce films, games and transmedia projects. I’ll be helping out in the art department, in-betweening animations in Flash, creating assets for game application, and any other odd jobs that need to be done. I am really enjoying the atmosphere of the project and learning about creating an internet presence.

Happy Hour Productions, Bristol
(October 2012)
At this wonderful studio I coloured frames using ‘TV Paint’, added the shade lines on some of the sequences and composited some animations together for scenes.
I was only with the studio for a week, and so I had to adapt very quickly to the software and the working rhythm of the studio and everyone I was working with, which was extremely valuable experience.

Experiences

Animation/Documentary Film Collaboration
During my second year of University, a module required us to produce some work with the Documentary film students for their films. It was an extremely useful experience as I was presented with a brief, and had to work closely with the Director to produce something that their group was happy with.

University of Wales, Newport  - Student Mentor
I have worked with the Newport Student Mentor scheme and Students Union to produce several poster campaigns and the Student Experience Staff Awards design, during my time studying at the University. Seeing the work I produce posted all over my University Campus is really great to see.
As a Student Mentor I am a confidant, problem solver and friend. I have to utilize all of the resources available to help the students that approach me with their problems, and work with them to help them achieve their goals, or even just to listen.

Games Design Animation
During my 3rd year, alongside my own Graduate film, I have been working with a Computer Games Design Student producing the animations for the characters and story cuts within his game. I will be animating some rough characters for him to trace over and fully animating others for application, along with a few short cut scenes. I have really enjoyed animating for something other than film, and it’s really exciting to see another outcome of my work. This has been quite demanding at times due to the differences in our styles but I feel I have adapted well and produced some great work. I would definitely be interested in working for games again in my future career.

Graduate Films
During my first and second and third years of my Animation degree at Newport, I assisted a few 3rd Year Graduate films. I have helped with animating a sequence, colouring scenes, cleaning up scenes, and had the role of background artist on another, for which I worked closely with the 3rd year to produce 37 backgrounds. This experience helped me develop my software skills and working with ‘directors’ was a great learning curve.

Employment History

Bell Services, Walt Disney World Resort, Florida
(June 10th - August 31st 2012)
I spent a summer in Florida working for the Walt Disney Company in one of their Resorts in Walt Disney World. Living and working in another country was an unforgettable and invaluable life experience. While I was there I took classes on self promotion as well as the extensive training I had to attend for my position. The competition was high for this job and I had to prove myself to the employers through 3 different recruitment stages.

Student Mentor, University of Wales, Newport
(September 2011 - June 2013)
I was a Student Mentor for the last two years of my degree at UWN, and really enjoyed the experience. I received a lot of training in how to support other students, as well as how to support myself and also how to promote myself. It has been a thoroughly rewarding experience and I loved being able to give back to the University Community by supporting the students.

Temporary Clerk, WJEC, Treforest.
(June - August 2011)
This was a temporary job position in that I was checking School Examination scripts for error in the marking process. I had to exert extreme confidentiality at all times and be extremely
thorough in my work.

Part-Time Sales Adviser, Halfords, Merthyr Tydfil
(2008 - 2010)
For this Saturday job I had to speak with many customers, assisting them in their purchases while being helpful and friendly but professional. For this job I had to learn a lot of new information regarding Cars and their parts, so as to better assist the customers. This position developed many skills, including learning new skills and information, my problem solving skills and my people skills.
